NO HOLDS BARRED: Pat Miletich, Shawn Tompkins, Kurt Otto, Chris Thomas on IFL Anacondas-Silverbacks Semifinals

  • NO HOLDS BARRED on PodOmatic

  • On this edition of NO HOLDS BARRED, host Eddie Goldman previews the 2007 International Fight League (IFL) World Championship semifinals, which take place Thursday, August 2, at the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, N.J. On that show, the top-seeded Los Angeles Anacondas (3-0) meet the defending team champions, the Quad Cities Silverbacks (2-1), and the second-seeded New York Pitbulls (3-0) face the third-seeded Tokyo Sabres (3-0). This week we focus on the Anacondas-Silverbacks match-up.

We also begin to introduce this week our new network of correspondents for NO HOLDS BARRED. We will be having regular discussions and commentaries with a number of the top journalists and analysts in the combat sports.

Our correspondents include Charles Farrell, the award-winning boxing writer and accomplished jazz musician; Todd Hester, the publisher and editor-in-chief of Gladiator Magazine; Kid Peligro, a senior editor of the ADCC News; Keisha Morrisey of Bloodline Boxing Entertainment; veteran wrestling journalist Bob Mayeri; and Chris Thomas, a veteran of both the traditional martial arts and the mixed martial arts.

The IFL held a media teleconference call Wednesday to preview the Anacondas-Silverbacks match-up. On that call, we spoke with Shawn Tompkins, coach of the Anacondas, and Pat Miletich, coach of the Silverbacks. We also spoke on that call with IFL commissioner and co-founder Kurt Otto.

Plus, we had a lengthy discussion and breakdown of the Anacondas-Silverbacks meet with our NO HOLDS BARRED correspondent, Chris Thomas, who also will be covering this event live.

SecondsOut Radio: Gomez, Cintron, Hopkins-Wright, Dundee, De La Hoya, Steward, Roach, Birmingham, Malignaggi, Ravelo

SecondsOut Radio: Alfonso Gomez, Kermit Cintron, Bernard Hopkins, Winky Wright, Angelo Dundee, Oscar De La Hoya, Emanuel Steward, Freddie Roach, Dan Birmingham, Paulie Malignaggi, Jerson Ravelo

  • SecondsOut Radio with Eddie Goldman

  • On this week's star-studded edition of SecondsOut Radio, host Eddie Goldman reviews the card held Saturday, July 14, at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and previews this coming Saturday's showdown between Bernard Hopkins and Winky Wright in Las Vegas.

In Atlantic City right after his fight, we spoke with welterweight Alfonso Gomez (17-3-2, 8 KOs), who earned the biggest win of his career by stopping Arturo Gatti (40-9, 31 KOs) in the seventh round. After that fight, Gatti announced his retirement.

We also spoke with IBF welterweight champion Kermit Cintron (28-1, 26 KOs), who scored an impressive second-round knockout of challenger Walter Matthysse (26-2, 25 KOs, 1 NC) that kept the Atlantic City crowd buzzing for many minutes afterwards. We spoke with Emanuel Steward, who trains Cintron. And we spoke with legendary trainer Angelo Dundee, who was in attendance at this card, about the state of boxing, as well as IBF 140-pound champion Paulie Malignaggi and super middleweight prospect Jerson Ravelo, who both also attended this event.

This coming Saturday, July 21, two of boxing's pound-for-pound best face each other for the first time, as light heavyweight king Bernard Hopkins (47-4-1, 32 KOs) fights Winky Wright (51-3-1, 25 KOs) at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada, and on HBO Pay-Per-View in the US.

We spoke with both Hopkins and Wright twice, first at the kickoff news conference in New York in May, and last week on media teleconference calls. We also spoke with Freddie Roach, who trains Hopkins, and Dan Birmingham, who trains Wright, as well as promoter Oscar De La Hoya about this fight.

It is free to listen to SecondsOut Radio, but you must register to gain access to it. Just click here, and listen, learn, and enjoy.
