NO HOLDS BARRED: Mixed Martial Arts and the Chris Benoit Tragedy

  • NO HOLDS BARRED on PodOmatic

  • On this edition of NO HOLDS BARRED, host Eddie Goldman discusses the meaning of the Chris Benoit tragedy and the self-destructive path taken by pro "wrestling" for real combat sports such as mixed martial arts. Among the issues raised are rampant doping, regulation, and the current direction of most of the mixed martial arts business. As usual, this commentary is No Holds Barred.

SecondsOut Radio: Wladimir Klitschko, Lamon Brewster, Travis Simms, Joachim Alcine, Vic Darchinyan, Nonito Donaire

  • SecondsOut Radio with Eddie Goldman

  • On this week's edition of SecondsOut Radio, host Eddie Goldman previews the major fights scheduled for this coming Saturday, July 7, and discusses some recent developments in the heavyweight division.

On July 7, in Cologne, Germany, IBF heavyweight champ Wladimir Klitschko (48-3, 43 KOs) will have a rematch with the last fighter to defeat him, Lamon Brewster (33-3, 29 KOs). When these two first fought, on April 10, 2004, Brewster won by a TKO at the end of the fifth round. Since then, Klitschko has won six straight fights, including four by TKO.

That fight will be screened in most countries as a live Internet pay-per-view on SecondsOut.com. (The Internet pay-per-view will not be available in North America, Germany, and Russia.)

We spoke with Wladimir Klitschko, Lamon Brewster, and Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions about this fight on an international media teleconference call.

On that same day, July 7, the unbeaten WBA super welterweight champion Travis Simms (25-0, 19 KOs) will defend his title against another unbeaten fighter, Joachim Alcine (28-0, 18 KOs). This fight headlines a card at the Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, Connecticut, not far from Simms's hometown of Norwalk, Connecticut. It will be shown live in the US on Showtime, and is promoted by Don King Productions.

Also on that card, the exciting and undefeated IBF flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan (28-0, 22 KOs) will take on challenger Nonito Donaire (17-1, 10 KOs).

We spoke with the outspoken Travis Simms, Joachim Alcine, Vic Darchinyan, and Nonito Donaire on media teleconference calls to discuss their fights.

It is free to listen to SecondsOut Radio, but you must register to gain access to it. Just click here, and listen, learn, and enjoy.
