No Holds Barred: Henry Cejudo, Ben Askren, King Mo Lawal, Cung Le, Scott Smith
First up is 2008 Olympic gold medalist freestyle wrestler, Henry Cejudo. His autobiography, American Victory, will be released January 5, 2010. At the Grappling World Championships, which he was observing, we spoke about his life and this new book. We also discussed the forthcoming chapters in his life, as he will now be training under the legendary Ricardo Liborio at American Top Team. There he will be learning submissions, jiu-jitsu, and grappling, as he prepares potentially to become a mixed martial arts fighter. We also discuss his plans to return to wrestling for the 2012 Olympics, how he has been a lifelong student of boxing, and more.
Next is another member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic freestyle wrestling team, Ben Askren. He won a gold medal at the 2009 Grappling World Championships this past weekend at 84 kg/185 lbs. in men's no-gi grappling. We spoke with him candidly about what this victory does and does not mean, why he wants changes to these grappling rules to attract more jiu-jitsu athletes to this event, how he will continue to wrestle as well as improve his jiu-jitsu skills, his signing by the Bellator Fighting Championships to begin fighting in their mixed martial arts events in April 2010, training to compete in wrestling, grappling, jiu-jitsu, and mixed martial arts all at once, and more.
We next speak with a regular guest on No Holds Barred, the undefeated mixed martial arts fighter and freestyle and college wrestling champion, "King" Mo Lawal. He will be making his debut in Strikeforce when he faces mixed martial arts veteran Mike Whitehead in a heavyweight bout on the December 19 show. We spoke with "King" Mo about how he plans to fight his opponent, fighting at heavyweight, his first fight in a cage, how he has been treated in Strikeforce, whether he prefers competing in mixed martial arts or wrestling, his expected entourage of "queens" who will accompany him to the cage, and much more.
The main event of this December 19 Strikeforce card features the unbeaten former Strikeforce middleweight champion, Cung Le, who vacated his title to concentrate on an acting career, returning to competition to face veteran Scott Smith. On a recent media conference call, we spoke with both Cung Le and Scott Smith about whether or not Cung Le will also have to fight ring rust, what to expect in this fight regarding the mix of striking and grappling, and more.
This is another edition of No Holds Barred loaded with discussions with some of the top combat sports athletes in the world, so make sure to check it out.

No Holds Barred: King Mo Lawal
Mo made his American fighting debut Friday night, August 28, with a 25-second TKO victory over the veteran Mark Kerr on the M-1 Global: Breakthrough card at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas.
Shortly after his victory, we reached Mo by phone. He discussed this fight, his strategy, the technique he utilized, the level of wrestling on which he has competed, and how he is still a free agent with no set plans. And, of course, he also asked about the results of the ESPN2 boxing card which was going on the same time as his fight, and we obliged him on that. So listen up to the hottest free agent in mixed martial arts, right here on No Holds Barred.

No Holds Barred: King Mo Lawal Prepares for Sengoku 7
On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman begins by commenting on the recent deaths of mixed martial arts fighters Justin Eilers and Justin Levens, and what this might possibly reflect about that sport. We also raise some major criticisms of the Sengoku 7 mixed martial arts card, which takes place Sunday, January 4, 2009, at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, near Tokyo. Fighting on that card will be heavyweight Antonio Silva, even though he is currently under suspension by the California State Athletic Commission for steroid use.
In our main interview segment, we speak with three-time U.S. national freestyle wrestling champion and now a mixed martial arts fighter with a record of 2-0, King Mo Lawal. Mo, a light heavyweight, will next be fighting veteran Yukiya Naito on that same Sengoku 7 card.
In a lengthy interview, we discussed what Mo knows about Yukiya Naito, how Mo prepared for this fight by training in Brazil, his plans to continue competing in wrestling and also to become a boxer, the role of freestyle and folkstyle wrestling in mixed martial arts, his attitude towards submissions, his King Mo persona in Japan and his Queens, and more.

No Holds Barred: Obama and King Mo Win
On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman begins by commenting on the election of Barack Obama as the first African-American president of the United States. Discussed are both the significance of this for the combat sports of boxing, wrestling, and mixed martial arts, and, of course more importantly, the people.
On Election Day in the U.S., November 4, we conducted an interview with three-time U.S. national freestyle wrestling champion and mixed martial arts fighter, King Mo Lawal. Mo just had his second TKO victory in as many fights in his new MMA career, stopping Chute Boxe fighter Fabio Silva in the third round at the Sengoku 6 card in Japan on Saturday, November 1.
Our lengthy discussion with Mo Lawal focused on his latest victory in the ring, his training in technique, his plans, his views on the worsening problems facing USA Wrestling, and much more.
His latest victory can be seen here.

That fight can be seen above.

No Holds Barred: Mo Lawal, Marcie Van Dusen, T.C. Dantzler, Ginger Snap, Beatrix Slaughter
On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman begins by commenting on the recent exposure of what goes on behind the scenes of UFC's "The Ultimate Fighter" show by cast member and fighter Mike Dolce. Here, once again, the true, anti-social nature of that show is laid bare.
Next, we review the entertaining Gotham Girls Roller Derby bout held this past Saturday, June 7, at Hunter College in New York, where the Bronx Gridlock routed the Brooklyn Bombshells, 126-53. Right after the event, we spoke with Bronx Gridlock members Ginger Snap, who is also president of the Gotham Girls Roller Derby, and Beatrix Slaughter, the Gridlock jammer who was named this event's MVP.
This week, from Friday, June 13, through Sunday, June 15, the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in men's and women's freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling take place at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The victors in each weight class go on to compete at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China, this August.
We had a chance this past week on a media teleconference call to speak with three of the top-rated wrestlers competing at this event: men's freestyle wrestler Mo Lawal (84 kg/185 lbs.), women's freestyle wrestler Marcie Van Dusen (55 kg/121 lbs.), and Greco-Roman wrestler T.C. Dantzler (74 kg/163 lbs.).

NO HOLDS BARRED: Mo Lawal, Ron Scott Stevens
On this edition of NO HOLDS BARRED, host Eddie Goldman speaks with freestyle wrestler Mo Lawal and Ron Scott Stevens, the chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission.
This past Saturday, April 26, Mo Lawal won his third U.S. Nationals title at 84 kg/185 lbs. With this victory, he advances directly into the finals of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, which take place June 13-15 in Las Vegas, Nev. The winners at the Olympic Team Trials will represent the U.S. at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, in August.
We spoke at length with Mo Lawal about his victory at the Nationals and his plans for the future.
Since 1997, the sport of mixed martial arts has been banned in the State of New York. Now there are plans to repeal the regressive legislation outlawing it and place it under the sanctioning of the New York State Athletic Commission.
To get his view on this matter, we spoke with Ron Scott Stevens, the chairman of the New York State Athletic Commission.
