No Holds Barred: Charles Farrell of The Boxing Standard
On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman speaks with our colleague, correspondent, and award-winning boxing writer, Charles Farrell. Charles is also co-editor of The Boxing Standard."Boxing as part of our culture as an ongoing event or series of events doesn't exist anymore," said Charles Farrell in this phone interview, which was recorded Wednesday. "I think the whole notion of professional behavior has moved outside of our culture."

No Holds Barred: Sergio Martinez, Darren Barker, Lou DiBella, Kristal Hart, Khan-Judah Critique

On this audio edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman speaks with middleweight champion Sergio Martinez and Darren Barker about their October 1 fight in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
We spoke with both Martinez and Barker at the kickoff news conference for this fight held Wednesday, July 20, in New York. We also spoke with Martinez's promoter Lou DiBella about this fight and why none of the major sanctioning bodies recognize Martinez as middleweight champion, even though Martinez is the linear champion and has not lost since capturing the title last year against Kelly Pavlik. Plus, we spoke with TV host Kristal Hart about this fight and how it epitomizes both the good and bad in boxing.
We open the show with a critique of the Amir Khan-Zab Judah fight, won by Khan with a fifth-round knockout on Saturday, July 23, in Las Vegas. While Khan was dominating the entire fight, the stoppage was controversial since what was ruled as the knockout punch appeared to be below the line separating legal and illegal blows which the referee specified in the prefight instructions. And we criticize the promotion for this fight.

No Holds Barred: An Historic Weekend of Fights Around the World
On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman discusses the historic fights held on the M-1 Challenge XXII, the K-1 World Grand Prix 2010 Final, the Showtime Bantamweight Tournament, and the Khan-Maidana fight cards.
Alistair Overeem, also the reigning Strikeforce heavyweight champion, emerged with the K-1 World Grand Prix championship on December 11 in Tokyo, Japan. This is the first time that an athlete has simultaneously held a major mixed martial arts world title along with winning the K-1 World Grand Prix tournament. He thus has to be considered as the top combat sports fighter of 2010.
Also on December 11, the Joseph Agbeko-Yonnhy Perez rematch, won by Agbeko with a unanimous decision, and the Amir Khan-Marcos Maidana fight, won by Khan by unanimous decision, were both action-packed, seesaw fights. Each deserves to be fight of the year candidates in boxing.
The M-1 Challenge XXII mixed martial arts card, held on December 10 in Moscow, Russia, and shown live on national television in Russia and on a webcast to the world, crowned three M-1 champions and helped establish M-1 Global as a major worldwide mixed martial arts organization.

No Holds Barred: Amir Khan, Paulie Malignaggi, Arthur Abraham, Andre Dirrell, Kristal Hart, Weekend Boxing Review
On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman previews the May 15 Amir Khan-Paulie Malignaggi fight and the March 27 Arthur Abraham -Andre Dirrell fight, and reviews the major boxing action from this past weekend, including the twelfth-round knockout by Wladimir Klitschko of Eddie Chambers.
Wladimir Klitschko, the holder of two of the major heavyweight titles, and generally regarded as the best of the weak heavyweight division, punctuated another dominant performance by closing the show Saturday, March 20, in Dusseldorf, Germany, with a stunning knockout of challenger Eddie Chambers with just seconds remaining in their fight. We comment on that fight, as well as the state of the heavyweight division. We also discuss the brutal first-round knockout by welterweight Randall Bailey of Jackson Bonsu in Belgium, the horrifying absence of any medical assistance for Bonsu in the ring after the knockout, the victory by junior middleweight Sechew Powell in his rematch with Deandre Latimore, and the blimp-like physique of heavyweight contender and Olympic gold medalist Odlanier Solis.
This past Tuesday, at a news conference at Madison Square Garden in New York, we spoke with WBA 140-pound champion Amir Khan and challenger Paulie Malignaggi. They will fight there Saturday, May 15. The careers of both fighters are on the rebound after recent losses, and we asked them how they have been changing their approaches to fighting. We also previewed this fight with our colleague Kristal Hart of the Kristal Hart Show on Manhattan Neighborhood Network.
This coming Saturday, March 27, the Super Six super middleweight tournament enters its second round, as the unbeaten Arthur Abraham takes on Andre Dirrell at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan. This will be shown live on Showtime in the U.S. We spoke with both fighters on a recent media conference call to get their views on what to expect in this important fight.
