NO HOLDS BARRED: Shane Mosley, Luis Collazo, Mo Lawal

  • NO HOLDS BARRED on PodOmatic

  • On this edition of NO HOLDS BARRED, the second this week, host Eddie Goldman focuses on the worlds of boxing and wrestling.

This Saturday, February 10, one of boxing's top stars, Shane Mosley (43-4, 1 NC, 37 KOs), will have a tough test when he fights Luis Collazo (27-2, 13 KOs) in a 12-round welterweight bout in Las Vegas. Collazo is the underrated southpaw who gave 2005 Fighter of the Year Ricky Hatton all he could handle last year. This fight between Mosley and Collazo will be shown live in the U.S. on HBO.

We got prefight comments from both Shane Mosley and Luis Collazo on a media teleconference call Tuesday, Feb. 6.

Freestyle wrestler Mo Lawal (Colorado Springs, Colo./Gator WC, 96 kg/211.5 lbs.) was the lone American to win his match Tuesday night, Feb. 6, in a dual meet between U.S. and Russian freestyle teams at the Chicago Cup held at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. He also was the only American to win a gold medal at the prestigious Takhti Cup of freestyle wrestling held on January 18 in Bandar Abbas, Iran. And he is emerging as one of the most colorful, controversial, and popular wrestlers active today in America.

We spoke with Mo Lawal by phone shortly after his victory at the Chicago Cup about these international wins, his plans, and his views on a variety of topics, including what he will watch on TV this coming Saturday night: the Mosley-Collazo fight, the Elite XC mixed martial arts card on Showtime, or both.

NO HOLDS BARRED: Lindsey Durlacher, Mary Kelly, Chicago Cup Wrestling, TV Wrapup

  • NO HOLDS BARRED on PodOmatic

  • On this edition of NO HOLDS BARRED, host Eddie Goldman discusses the Chicago Cup, a dual meet between the men's freestyle teams from the USA and Russia. The Chicago Cup will be held Tuesday, February 6, at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. The event will also feature two women's freestyle and two Greco-Roman matches. It is being sponsored by USA Wrestling and World Sport Chicago.

We speak with two wrestlers in this event: Greco-Roman wrestler Lindsey Durlacher, a two-time U.S. World Team member and a bronze medalist at the 2006 World Championships at 55 kg/121 lbs., and women's freestyle wrestler Mary Kelly, a member of the U.S. World Team in 2006 at 48 kg/105.5 lbs.

LiveSportsVideo.com will show a free, recorded webcast of the Chicago Cup on Tuesday, Feb. 6, beginning at approximately 10 pm CST.

We also discuss why, with all the combat and contact sports on American television this past weekend, the most exciting development was the emergence of a new international star in boxing, Chad Dawson (23-0, 1 NC, 15 KOs). He captured the WBC light heavyweight belt by dominating the now-former champ, Tomasz Adamek (31-1, 21 KOs), over 12 rounds Saturday night in Kissimmee, Fla., in a fight shown in the U.S. on Showtime.

SecondsOut Radio: Shannon Briggs, Sultan Ibragimov, Weekend Wrapup

  • SecondsOut Radio with Eddie Goldman

  • On this week's edition of SecondsOut Radio, host Eddie Goldman begins by discussing the emergence of the new WBC light heavyweight champ, Chad Dawson (23-0, 1 NC, 15 KOs), as an international star. He captured that title by dominating the now-former champ, Tomasz Adamek (31-1, 21 KOs), over 12 rounds Saturday night in Kissimmee, Fla.

We also discuss the increasingly absurd situation involving top heavyweight contender Samuel Peter. He has now won two straight fights, both billed as WBC heavyweight title elimination bouts, for the opportunity to face WBC heavyweight champ Oleg Maskaev in his next fight. But former champ Vitali Klitschko has announced his return to the ring after two years of retirement, and the WBC may bump him ahead of Peter.

We next preview the March 10 title fight at Madison Square Garden's Theater in New York between WBO heavyweight champ Shannon Briggs (48-4-1, 42 KOs) and the unbeaten Sultan Ibragimov (19-0-1, 16 KOs), a 2000 Olympic silver medalist for Russia. We spoke with both Shannon Briggs and Sultan Ibragimov at a recent news conference in New York.

It is free to listen to SecondsOut Radio, but you must register to gain access to it. Just click here, and listen, learn, and enjoy.
