SecondsOut Radio: Shannon Briggs, Sultan Ibragimov, Weekend Wrapup
On this week's edition of SecondsOut Radio, host Eddie Goldman begins by discussing the emergence of the new WBC light heavyweight champ, Chad Dawson (23-0, 1 NC, 15 KOs), as an international star. He captured that title by dominating the now-former champ, Tomasz Adamek (31-1, 21 KOs), over 12 rounds Saturday night in Kissimmee, Fla.
We also discuss the increasingly absurd situation involving top heavyweight contender Samuel Peter. He has now won two straight fights, both billed as WBC heavyweight title elimination bouts, for the opportunity to face WBC heavyweight champ Oleg Maskaev in his next fight. But former champ Vitali Klitschko has announced his return to the ring after two years of retirement, and the WBC may bump him ahead of Peter.
We next preview the March 10 title fight at Madison Square Garden's Theater in New York between WBO heavyweight champ Shannon Briggs (48-4-1, 42 KOs) and the unbeaten Sultan Ibragimov (19-0-1, 16 KOs), a 2000 Olympic silver medalist for Russia. We spoke with both Shannon Briggs and Sultan Ibragimov at a recent news conference in New York.
