No Holds Barred: Nevada State Athletic Commission Passes the Buck on Doping
On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman presents the audio from the section of Monday's Nevada State Athletic Commission public meeting on the issue of out-of-competition drug testing. This issue has came to the fore since they claimed they had no "jurisdiction" to punish UFC fighter Jon Jones for a positive drug test, a month before his UFC 182 fight with Daniel Cormier, for benzoylecgonine, the main metabolite of cocaine. We also read a statement from Dr. Margaret Goodman, the President and Board Chairman of the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA), explaining why "Any fighter who had a drug problem should not be declared fit to compete."

No Holds Barred: Jeff Monson on Capitalism, Anarchism, Communism, and Jon Jones
On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman speaks with American Top Team MMA fighter and two-time ADCC world grappling champion Jeff Monson.
His next fight is scheduled for the November 15 M-1 Global card in St. Petersburg, Russia, against Alexander Emelianenko.
In his most recent MMA fight, on the June 21 M-1 Global card, also in St. Petersburg, Russia, he defeated Denis Komkin by first-round submission with a north-south choke. For his ring entrance, he electrified the audience by coming out to the national anthem of the U.S.S.R.
The impact of this was instant and unforgettable, as everyone in attendance, including Russian president Vladimir Putin, rose to their feet.
We spoke with Jeff Monson by phone Wednesday night about this event and the message he was trying to send. We then went into a broader discussion about his views on capitalism, anarchism, and communism, including the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Saying fighters are just "a cog in the machine" and "realistically just wage slaves", Jeff Monson focused in on the situation involving the cancellation of UFC 151 and the treatment of UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. We also discussed the prospects for fighters developing some sort of union or association, and much more.

No Holds Barred: Rob Maysey of MMAFA In Defense of Jon Jones
On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman speaks with Rob Maysey of the Mixed Martial Arts Fighters Association.Many people in and around the mixed martial arts world are blaming the cancellation of UFC 151, originally scheduled for September 1, on UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Jones was slated to face Dan Henderson, but Henderson had to withdraw from that fight this week with an injury. Rather than take a new opponent on eight days' notice, which would have given Jones only three days actually to prepare for this fight, he declined. Instead, Jones will face Vitor Belfort on September 22. The postponement of Jones's appearance then led Zuffa, the parent company of UFC, to cancel the entire September 1 card and pay-per-view, and then blame the cancellation on Jones.
Not everyone, however, takes this view.
"I think Jon Jones made a very wise and professional decision. He followed the advice of his trainer," said Rob Maysey in this interview, which was recorded by phone Friday night. Noting that Jones was trying to protect both his title and earning capacity, he agreed that taking a new opponent on such short notice was not worth the risk. "He should be applauded for doing that," continued Rob Maysey. "He's the first fighter that I'm aware of that has had kind of the clout and the will to say 'no.'"
We thus discussed the real circumstances behind the cancellation of UFC 151, the attack on Jones in a press release issued by his promoters, the reaction to all of this by the MMA media, why fighter rights in MMA must be greatly expanded, what fighters and their supporters can do, and much more.
