SecondsOut Radio: Thomas Hauser, and Weekend Boos
On this week's edition of SecondsOut Radio, host Eddie Goldman opens by serving up a volley of boos to the judges in the Nikolai Valuev-Evander Holyfield fight, to writers from Yahoo and Sports Illustrated, and to the American television networks for failing to make easily accessible and available the many major fights of interest which took place this past weekend.
In our main interview segment, we speak with the award-winning boxing writer and author, Thomas Hauser of SecondsOut.com. In a lengthy discussion, we touch on numerous topics, including on the recent merger between SecondsOut.com and MaxBoxing.com, the growth of piracy of televised boxing shows on the Internet, the flawed economic model of boxing which places major reliance on pay-per-views, the responsibility of boxing journalists and problems faced by them, a new controversy in the Boxing Writers Association of America, and much more.

NO HOLDS BARRED: A Tale of Two 44-Year-Old Heavyweights
On this edition of NO HOLDS BARRED, host Eddie Goldman discusses the recent controversies involving two 44-year-old heavyweight fighters and former world champions: boxer Evander Holyfield and mixed martial arts fighter Randy Couture.
Holyfield just dropped a lopsided unanimous decision to WBO heavyweight champion Sultan Ibragimov in Moscow, Russia, this past Saturday, October 13. Many are now calling for the obvious, for Holyfield, who turns 45 this coming Friday, to retire. But many in the American boxing media were just this past week telling us that Holyfield actually stood a real chance to win in this fight.
Couture announced last week that he was quitting the UFC and vacating his heavyweight title there. His main beefs were that top heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko had just signed with another promotion, M-1 of Russia, and that he was not being compensated fairly and had been told he was the second-highest paid fighter in that company when he had heard directly from other fighters that he was not.
In another no-holds-barred commentary, we discuss what all this says about the sycophantic media which covers both sports, the future of boxing and its beleaguered heavyweight division, and the future of UFC now that it has abruptly lost perhaps its most popular fighter of all time.

SecondsOut Radio: Evander Holyfield
On this week's edition of SecondsOut Radio, host Eddie Goldman discusses Saturday's fight between WBO heavyweight champ Sultan Ibragimov (22-0-1, 17 KOs) and former heavyweight champion, 44-year-old Evander Holyfield (41-9-2, 27 KOs), held at the Khodynka Arena in Moscow, Russia. Ibragimov retained his title with a lopsided 12-round decision, winning by scores of 118-110 and 117-111 twice.
We open with the unedited and complete audio from Evander Holyfield's postfight media teleconference call held with American boxing journalists shortly after the fight. Included on this call are some comments by promoter Kathy Duva. Right after that, we offer our own opinion on what happened Saturday night, and whether or not Evander Holyfield should retire as a professional fighter.

SecondsOut Radio: Samuel Peter, Pops Anderson, Jeff Mayweather, Kali Meehan, Riddick Bowe, Dino Duva
On this week's edition of SecondsOut Radio, host Eddie Goldman begins by reviewing this past Saturday night's card at Madison Square Garden in New York.
We spoke with WBC interim heavyweight champion Samuel Peter (29-1, 22 KOs) about his victory over challenger Jameel McCline (38-8-3, 23 KOs), a late replacement for the injured regular WBC heavyweight champ, Oleg Maskaev. McCline knocked down Peter a total of three times in rounds two and three, but it was Peter, using his boxing skills, who rallied to earn a unanimous decision.
We also spoke with Peter's trainer, Pops Anderson, to get a fuller evaluation of his performance. And we spoke with promoter Dino Duva about what is next for Peter.
Plus, we spoke with heavyweight Kali Meehan (33-3, 27 KOs), another late replacement on this card, who scored a TKO victory at the end of round six over DaVarryl Williamson (24-5, 20 KOs). And we spoke with former world heavyweight champion Riddick Bowe who was at this card to get his take on it and find out about his own plans.
This coming Saturday, October 13, another former world heavyweight champion, 44-year-old Evander Holyfield (41-8-2, 27 KOs), will try to win his fifth belt when he takes on undefeated WBO heavyweight champ Sultan Ibragimov (21-0-1, 17 KOs) at the Khodynka Arena in Moscow, Russia. This fight will be on pay-per-view in the US.
At a prefight news conference in New York, we spoke with Jeff Mayweather, Ibragimov's trainer, about what their camp expects to occur this coming Saturday.
