No Holds Barred: Boxing and Bacon

On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman discusses the similarities and differences between boxing and bacon (hint: both involve pigs and are bad for you, but at least bacon smells and tastes good), in light of the major fights of Saturday, December 3.
Analyzed are the breakout performance by WBA bantamweight champion Anselmo Moreno, who earned a lopsided unanimous decision over Vic Darchinyan, and IBF bantamweight champion Abner Mares, who decisioned Joseph King Kong Agbeko in their rematch, this time without much controversy. But also discussed are the disputed decision win by heavyweight Robert Helenius over Dereck Chisora, and the disgraceful farce at Madison Square Garden in New York, where Miguel Cotto won by a tenth-round TKO over a fighter who should not have been licensed by the New York State Athletic Commission, Antonio Margarito. The reasons why this was a disgraceful farce are explained on this show, and remedies to this disgrace are proposed.

No Holds Barred: Charles Farrell on Cotto-Foreman and the Decline of New York
On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman once again speaks with our correspondent Charles Farrell about a bad boxing matchup with bad attendance in a big ballpark, and which was brutally blemished by bad officiating, bad announcing, and bad reporting, held in a big "hick town" known as New York.
That, of course, refers to the June 5 fight between Miguel Cotto and Yuri Foreman held in the new Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. Cotto won by a TKO after referee Arthur Mercante finally stopped the fight in the ninth round, after Mercante refused to stop the fight one round earlier when the corner of Foreman, who was by then hobbling around on one leg, tried to end it by several methods.
We spoke Monday night and present our lengthy and cutting critique here in its entirety. We not only analyzed the many bad points of this fight and its promotion, but also tied it to the overall decline of New York, the home of many of the guilty parties in this debacle. We didn’t spare anybody, the promoters, HBO, the officials, and the media included. And as our guest philosopher, Jerome Lester Horwitz, explained, "Truth is stranger than fiction."

In our discussion, we explain how to watch the November 14 Pacquiao-Cotto fight online if you do not want to pay the outrageous pay-per-view fee. We discuss the free, peer-to-peer media player from SopCast. We explain where to get information about which sites are showing this and other sporting events for free, such as the MyP2P Forum. We note why we have no problem using these so-called pirate services, which are all free, since the television networks and fight promoters, who get fat and rich from having fighters hit one another until they are too old to do so and are replaced by younger fighters, are the real pirates. And we do so with a No Holds Barred attitude.
