No Holds Barred: M-1 Challenge XXI and Bellator 34 Super Thursday Postfight Analysis

On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman reviews the two big international mixed martial arts cards which took place on Super Thursday, October 28: M-1 Challenge XXI and Bellator 34.

In the M-1 heavyweight title fight, Guram Gugenishvili of Ukraine, the M-1 Selection Western Europe champion, defeated American Top Team fighter Kenny "Deuce" Garner, the M-1 Selection Americas heavyweight champion, with a standing guillotine in round two. In the M-1 lightweight title fight, Artiom Damkovsky, the M-1 Selection Eastern Europe 2010 champion, defeated Mairbek Taisumov, the M-1 Selection Western Europe 2010 champion, in the third round after the doctor stopped the fight. In a welterweight super bout, veteran Che Mills of the U.K. upset the previously-unbeaten and highly-touted Magomed Shikshabekov of Russia by decision after an extra, fourth round. This card took place in St. Petersburg, Russia.

At Bellator 34, the last of season three and of 2010 for the Bellator Fighting Championships, American Zoila Frausto upset the previously-unbeaten Megumi Fujii of Japan, winning a controversial five-round split decision to capture the women's 115-pound Bellator title. Also at Bellator 34, American Top Team fighter and Bellator middleweight champion Hector Lombard, a former member of the Cuban Olympic judo team, successfully defended his belt with a five-round unanimous decision over Alexander Shlemenko of Russia, who had won the Bellator middleweight tournament. Bellator 34 took place at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida.

We also comment on some of the implications of the absorption of WEC by UFC.
