On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman speaks with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and grappling legend Ricardo Liborio and Gary Abbott, the Director of Communications and Special Projects for USA Wrestling, about the 2009 Grappling World Championships.

This event will be held Saturday, December 12, and Sunday, December 13, at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

There will also be a free, live webcast of this event on TheMat.com.

During the two days of this event there will be both no-gi and gi competition for men and women. Among the many athletes scheduled to compete are jiu-jitsu world champions Rodrigo "Comprido" Medeiros and Edson Diniz, ADCC world champion Jeff Monson, Olympic silver medalist freestyle wrestler Sara McMann, two-time NCAA wrestling champion and U.S. Olympic freestyle wrestler Ben Askren, and mixed martial arts fighters Mark Bocek, Din Thomas, Tara LaRosa, Shayna Baszler, and Miesha Tate.

Ricardo Liborio, who is the co-owner and head instructor for American Top Team, and also the head coach of the USA Grappling team which will be competing in this event, will also be giving a free grappling clinic between sessions of the Grappling World Championships on Saturday, December 12.

In a lengthy interview, we all discussed the importance of this world championship event, the strong Brazilian team which will compete in it, the many top American combat sports athletes in it who hope to earn the U.S. a second straight world team title, the pros and cons of the rules of this event, the prospects of grappling being added to the program of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, the relation between the different styles of grappling and wrestling, and much more.
