NO HOLDS BARRED: L. Jon Wertheim of Sports Illustrated
On this edition of NO HOLDS BARRED, the second this week, host Eddie Goldman speaks with L. Jon Wertheim, a senior writer at Sports Illustrated.
The May 28, 2007, edition of Sports Illustrated featured a groundbreaking and positive cover story on mixed martial arts and UFC, written by Jon, called "The New Main Event".
In a lengthy interview, we discuss this story, mixed martial arts and UFC in general, what his plans are for covering mixed martial arts, and where this sport and its organizations may be headed.

I did see that there was an option to set an 'author alert' for L Jon Wertheim on the Random House site (only works on the Canadian one, strangely), but then that would depend on if they're set to publish the MMA book. Not sure if Wertheim tends to go with the same people for each book.
Hopefully as you say he'll focus on accurate research. Would be great to have another book on the level of Gentry's No Holds Barred, or perhaps even superior given Wertheim's long journalistic experience at Sports Illustrated.

I'd love to find out more about the book Wertheim mentioned he was working on. Is there any way to keep updated on when it might be published?

Right now he is still writing and even planning the book. It is some time off, but I will definitely let people know. What impressed me a lot was his willingness to search out the truth, even when he had been misled previously. That is too rare in the mainstream media.

Thanks: in that case I should hear it when you next mention Wertheim on the podcast, as I tend to listen to most of them.
