NO HOLDS BARRED: Richard Pound of WADA and the Battle Against Doping
On this special edition of NO HOLDS BARRED, host Eddie Goldman focuses on the battle against doping in the combat sports.
We spoke with the most powerful person in that battle, Richard Pound, the President of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), about doping in mixed martial arts. We also hear his opening remarks on a recent media conference call summarizing recent developments and advances in this battle, including the growing number of countries signing the UNESCO treaty against doping in sports.
We comment upon a new report from two British doctors which documents that marijuana "contributes to the onset of psychotic symptoms."
We also discuss the apparent rampant usage of dope in MMA, the significance of the lack of any anti-doping measures at both UFC 69 and 70, and the use on the April 21 Cage Rage MMA show in London of a fighter currently under suspension by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for doping.
