No Holds Barred: Matt Hume on ONE FC: Rise of Kings and Self-Governance in MMA
The next ONE FC card will be this Saturday, October 6, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore. There will be a lightweight super fight between Shinya "Tobikan Judan" Aoki and Arnaud "The Game" Lepont and two fights for newly-created ONE FC titles. Zorobabel "Zoro" Moreira will face Kotetsu Boku for the lightweight belt and Leandro Issa will fight Soo Chul Kim for the bantamweight belt.
ONE FC: Rise of Kings will be shown on same-day tape-delay on pay-per-view television in the U.S., and on a live online pay-per-view at http://www.onefc.com/livestream.
We spoke with Matt Hume by phone Thursday before he left for Singapore for this show. We discussed this stacked card, as well as issues related to the ONE FC rules, their model of self-governance, fighter safety, the allowing of soccer kicks to the head of downed fighters, the establishment of ONE FC belts and titles, amateur MMA, and more.
"When you have self-governance, someone without integrity or a group without integrity can do things they shouldn't be doing," he said in this interview. "But if you have integrity, the group that you're working with has integrity, then that's going to be the best situation because you provide the quality control. There's nothing that's beyond your control there."

No Holds Barred: Matt Hume on the Governance of Pro and Amateur MMA
On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman speaks with mixed martial arts legend and the current head official for the ONE Fighting Championship (ONE FC), Matt Hume.
Matt was one of the featured speakers at the historic ONE Asia MMA Summit 2012, held June 1-3 in Singapore. His presentations included topics such as how to build fighters properly, the need for good governance of both professional and amateur MMA, how ONE FC has blended the best rules from Pride and the North American unified rules, the need for strong anti-doping measures in MMA, and why MMA is presently not organized like a sport.
We spoke with Matt Hume right after the conclusion of the ONE Asia MMA Summit 2012 on Sunday, June 3, in Singapore. We further discussed the issues he had raised in his presentations, making for an essential discussion about many of the key issues facing mixed martial arts globally.

No Holds Barred: Matt Hume on ONE FC
On this audio edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman speaks with the veteran MMA and combat sports trainer, official, and former fighter, Matt Hume.
He has just been selected to be the head official and referee for the new mixed martial arts promotion, the ONE Fighting Championship.
ONE FC has its debut show on Saturday, September 3, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore. This card will feature 16 fighters who are present or former world or national champions in various disciplines in the martial arts and combat sports, facing one another.
We spoke by phone with Matt Hume on Wednesday to learn about the rules, structure, and organization of ONE FC. The rules will be a unique blend of the North American unified rules and the rules used in Pride FC, where Matt was also an official. We discussed the challenges of running mixed martial arts events in areas where, unlike North America, there is little or no government regulation. ONE FC is aiming to become the largest MMA promotion in Asia, and we discussed its potential to become as popular as Pride was in its heyday. We also discussed his work and role as owner of both Genesis Fights in Seattle, Washington, and AMC Kickboxing and Pankration in Kirkland, Washington, and much more.
