NO HOLDS BARRED

by Eddie Goldman

My latest piece, called "Why Anthony Joshua vs. Jarrell Miller Matters", is up. It was written before the Fury-ESPN-Top Rank deal was announced, and before Tuesday's trashy Joshua-Miller press conference, but has lots of analysis you won't see in the shill media. It can be read at https://hannibalboxing.com/why-anthony-joshua-vs-jarrell-miller-matters.

On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman discusses the new Tyson Fury-ESPN-Top Rank agreement, what it says about and means for boxing and its TV and streaming deals, why not to expect the Fury-Wilder rematch any time soon, and why now the June 1 fight at Madison Square Garden between WBA super, IBF, and WBO heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua of the U.K. (22-0, 21 KOs) and challenger Jarrell "Big Baby" Miller of the U.S. (23-0-1, 20 KOs), which will be on DAZN in the U.S. and Sky Sports Box Office in the U.K., is the biggest fight in heavyweight boxing.

On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman discusses the new deal reported to be for one billion U.S. dollars between Matchroom Boxing and the Perform Group, the parent company of the sports streaming service DAZN. 32 Matchroom shows will be streamed live in the U.S. exclusively on DAZN, beginning in September.

They claim this will change boxing in the U.S. and around the world. But can it succeed?

The kickoff event for this new venture took place Thursday in New York. To discuss this we spoke with: Simon Denyer, the CEO of Perform Group; undefeated heavyweight contender Jarrell "Big Baby" Miller, who is likely to be featured on these shows; Eddie Hearn, the managing director of Matchroom Boxing; and our colleague Kristal Hart of the "Kristal Hart Show".

On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman spoke with Daniel Jacobs, Maciej Sulecki, and Johann Duhaupas.

On April 28, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, Daniel Jacobs of Brooklyn (33-2, 29 KOs) will fight the undefeated Maciej Sulecki of Poland (26-0, 10 KOs) in a WBA middleweight title eliminator. Also on that card will be a WBA heavyweight title eliminator between unbeaten contender Jarrell "Big Baby" Miller of Brooklyn (20-0-1,18 KOs) and former title challenger Johann Duhupaus of France (37-4, 24 KOs). In addition, one of the stars of women's boxing, the unbeaten WBA women's lightweight champ Katie Taylor of Ireland (8-0, 4 KOs), will fight IBF women's lightweight champ Victoria Bustos of Argentina (18-4, 0 KOs), in a title unification fight. This card will be shown live in the U.S. on HBO and in the U.K. on Sky Sports.

We spoke with Daniel Jacobs, Maciej Sulecki, and Johann Duhaupas on a media conference call last week. We also discuss the coming changing of the guard in the middleweight division, how the Jacobs-Sulecki fight fits into this situation, and which fighters may soon rise to the top.

On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman discusses Anthony Joshua's tenth-round TKO victory over Carlos Takam on October 28, and the controversies it caused regarding the fast stoppage and Joshua's less-than-stellar performance.

Next in an unofficial trilogy of top heavyweight fights will be WBC champion Deontay Wilder's rematch with Bermane Stiverne this Saturday, November 4. Wilder is 38-0 with 37 knockouts, Stiverne being his lone opponent not stopped within the distance. This rematch of their 2015 fight takes place at Brooklyn's Barclays Center and will be shown in the U.S. on Showtime and in the U.K. on Sky Sports.

Jarrell "Big Baby" Miller, 19-0-1 with 17 KOs, wants to get into title contention when he faces former title challenger Mariusz Wach on November 11 at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, Long Island, New York, in a fight which will be shown on HBO in the U.S.

We spoke with "Big Baby" and promoter Eddie Hearn on a media conference call this past week.

In addition, on his media conference call, Deontay Wilder was asked about racial inequality in the U.S., in light of the growing revolt by athletes against racist killings by police. We play Wilder's remarks on that subject, complete and unedited.

And we discuss what all this means for the heavyweight division, and much more.
