No Holds Barred: Kris Iatskevich on North American Throwdown and Future of Catch Wrestling

On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman speaks with Kris Iatskevich of the International Submission Wrestling Alliance (ISWA) about the North American Throwdown catch wrestling event and the prospects for the growth of catch wrestling.
The North American Throwdown was held Saturday, February 25, 2012, in Joliette, Quebec, Canada, near Montreal. It featured both the ASA's Eighth Annual North American Freestyle Sambo Championships and the ISWA's Catch Wrestling Open tournament, also known as the Carpentier Open. Grapplers from all styles and affiliations competed.
We spoke with Kris Iatskevich by Skype Thursday about this historic event. We discussed the percent of victories by pin and by submission at the catch wrestling part of this event, how the rules virtually eliminated stalling, and the need for some improvements in future tournaments. We also discussed the great potential for catch wrestling to emerge as a legitimate and professional spectator sport, how this tournament was a steppingstone in that direction, the need for principled unity and cooperation among those who are part of this catch wrestling revival, the tentative plans for the next event, and much more.

No Holds Barred: Boyd Ritchie on the Revival of Catch-As-Catch-Can Wrestling

On this audio edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman speaks with Boyd Ritchie of the International Submission Wrestling Alliance (ISWA) about the revival of catch, or catch-as-catch-can, wrestling.
The ISWA is sanctioning the CACC Southeastern Regional Championship. This event will be the first of several planned regional tournaments in catch-as-catch-can wrestling, leading up to a national championship in 2012. The CACC Southeastern Regional Championship takes place Saturday, November 12, from 2:00 PM to 6:30 PM ET, at the YMCA at 205 W. Richardson Avenue in Summerville, South Carolina, near Charleston. For those who compete in this tournament, there will be a free seminar with Kris Iatskevich of the ISWA on Sunday, November 13.
We spoke with Boyd Ritchie Thursday evening by phone about this tournament and the revival of the sport of catch-as-catch-can wrestling, which was once enormously popular in the early part of the twentieth century. We discussed the rules of this style of submission wrestling, some of the history of this sport, how the future is beginning to look very bright for it, and much more.
