No Holds Barred: Steve Mocco
On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman speaks with Steve Mocco.
A two-time NCAA Div. I heavyweight wrestling champion and a member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic freestyle wrestling team, Steve is one of the latest of the many elite wrestlers who are making the transition to mixed martial arts. He is now training full-time with American Top Team and hopes to make his MMA debut in the near future.
We spoke with Steve Mocco by phone Friday about this transition from wrestling to MMA and his training at American Top Team, which he said is "a real good fit for me and a natural move."
We discussed his training in submission and standup fighting, his background in judo, why he decided to go into MMA now, his plans to start fighting professionally, what those running wrestling can do to retain some of the elite athletes who are becoming MMA fighters, and more.
