No Holds Barred: Carlos Santos
On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman speaks with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu legend Carlos Santos.
After nine years teaching jiu-jitsu in Abu Dhabi, the three-time BJJ world heavyweight champion, trained by the late Carlson Gracie Sr., has relocated to Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA, where in February of this year he opened the Prime Jiu-Jitsu Center.
The Prime Jiu-Jitsu Center is the first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt Center in Colorado Springs, which is also the home of the U.S. Olympic Training Center.
We spoke with Carlos Santos by phone Tuesday afternoon.
"For me, jiu-jitsu is not only a fight," he stated in this interview. "Jiu-jitsu is a lifestyle."
He explained that his new facility, which he runs with Marcelo Motta, is open to all levels, and has both beginners and children training there as well as athletes from the Olympic Training Center and those experienced in BJJ. We discussed what jiu-jitsu needs to do in order to get regularly televised, the need for more professional organization, why he is now in Colorado Springs, his approach to new challenges in life, and much more.
