No Holds Barred: The Hopkins-Dawson Disgrace and the Governance of Combat Sports
On this audio edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman discusses the scandalous governance in combat sports, especially in light of the latest disgrace in the Hopkins-Dawson boxing match of October 15. In that fight, Dawson was awarded a TKO victory after lifting Hopkins and depositing him on the canvas, injuring Hopkins's shoulder. It is the first known major boxing title fight won with a takedown.
Also discussed are the implications of the Cologne Consensus issued by the Play the Game conference calling for tougher measures to fight corruption and mismanagement in sports on an international level; the lessons of bad governance in combat sports for the re-emerging sport of catch wrestling; the governance of MMA and the battle to re-legalize MMA in New York; the call by Olympic athletes to strengthen penalties for doping; and much more.
