No Holds Barred: Panel Discussion on Past, Present, and Future of Mixed Martial Arts
On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman presents the audio from the panel discussion at the 2010 MMA World Expo on the "Past, Present and Future of Mixed Martial Arts". This panel discussion took place Friday, November 12, at the Jacob Javits Center in New York.
The panel was moderated by Eddie Goldman, who also spoke on it, along with Justin Klein, Attorney, Satterlee Stephens Burke & Burke LLP, The Fight Lawyer; Edward Anthony, president and CEO of New York Jiu-Jitsu; and Dorian Price, a muay Thai and mixed martial arts fighter and trainer at New York Jiu-Jitsu.
This panel featured wide-ranging discussion and explanations about the real history of the development of the rules and regulation of mixed martial arts in North America, why mixed martial arts pioneers like Mike Thomas are being honored, the negative image of mixed martial arts, why a grassroots movement to legalize mixed martial arts in New York is needed, the problems facing the future of mixed martial arts, and much, much more.
Towards the end of the panel, we also heard about the New York Mixed Martial Arts Initiative, a non-profit organization dedicated to making mixed martial arts and self defense programs available to inner city youth.
