No Holds Barred: Joe Soto-Joe Warren Bellator Preview, Segura-Calderon Fight of Year Candidate, World Combat Games, and More

On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman previews the important Joe Soto-Joe Warren Bellator featherweight title fight, discusses the Giovanni Segura-Ivan Calderon fight of the year candidate in boxing, explains the unity of all the combat sports, and analyzes more recent events in the combat sports.

Bellator featherweight champion Joe Soto will defend his title against Bellator featherweight tournament winner Joe Warren Thursday, September 2, in San Antonio, Texas, on a card which will air live in the U.S. on Fox Sports Net. The 33-year-old Warren, a 2006 world champion in Greco-Roman wrestling, is 5-1 in mixed martial arts, and has the edge in level of competition in mixed martial arts and accomplishments in wrestling. But Soto, at just age 23, is unbeaten in mixed martial arts at 9-0, winning four of his fights by submission and four by knockout. This is a fight which mixed martial arts fans should not miss.

Many people likely missed another fight of the year candidate in boxing this past Saturday, August 28, as Giovanni Segura knocked out previously-unbeaten Ivan Calderon to unify two 108-pound belts. We discuss this all-action fight, which took place in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.

We also compare the Royce Gracie-Art Jimmerson fight at the first Ultimate Fighting Championship in 1993 to the Randy Couture-James Toney fight this past Saturday, analyze the rise of fighters from Russia and Eastern Europe in mixed martial arts, preview important boxing matches this weekend involving 105-pound champion Roman Gonzalez of Nicaragua and 130-pound champion Roman Martinez of Puerto Rico, note the Pacquiao-Margarito media tour and what this fight is doing to boxing, discuss the first-ever SportAccord World Combat Games which are underway in Beijing, and much more in the world of combat sports.
