No Holds Barred: Robert Drysdale and His Pro MMA Debut

On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman speaks with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and ADCC world champion Robert Drysdale.

He will be making his professional mixed martial arts debut this Saturday, July 17, on the AFC 3: Evolution card promoted by the Armageddon Fighting Championships. This card will be held at the Bear Mountain Arena in Colwood (Victoria), British Columbia, Canada. It will be shown live on an Internet pay-per-view.

After a successful amateur mixed martial arts debut in 2008, Robert Drysdale will now face Bastien Huveneers (8-2-1) of Vancouver, a fighter who has not lost since 2006.

We spoke with Robert Drysdale Saturday afternoon by phone about his transition to mixed martial arts. He explained why he has become a professional mixed martial arts fighter, and why he enjoys boxing and kickboxing while still remaining based in jiu-jitsu. We also discussed the viability of a professional league for some style of grappling, as well as problems in the rules and format of jiu-jitsu events which have hindered their appeal to fans. He also outlined his extensive use of the Internet to provide online training for people, and also expand the influence of his schools, whose main headquarters are in Las Vegas, Nevada.
