No Holds Barred: Ben Askren
On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman speaks with two-time NCAA champion wrestler, 2008 U.S. freestyle wrestling Olympian, and undefeated mixed martial arts fighter Ben Askren (6-0).
After winning the 170-pound tournament in season two of the Bellator Fighting Championships, he earned a shot at fighting champion Lyman Good in the upcoming season three.
We spoke Thursday about his experiences in both wrestling and mixed martial arts, and his plans for his next fight, tentatively scheduled for October. We discussed his victory over Dan Hornbuckle in the 170-pound Bellator tournament final, how some people viewed him as an underdog coming into that fight, and how elite wrestlers are viewed in the mixed martial arts world. He discussed his plans to focus on fighting in mixed martial arts while still coaching in wrestling, and much more.
