No Holds Barred: Mark Pavelich on the Maximum Fighting Championship
On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman speaks with the colorful and outspoken Mark Pavelich, the owner and president of the mixed martial arts company, the Maximum Fighting Championship (MFC).
The next MFC show takes place this Friday, December 4, at the River Cree Resort and Casino just outside Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The main event features two of the most talented and technical fights in mixed martial arts, Dean Lister and Thales Leites. This card will be televised live throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico on HDNet Fights.
There are few people in the mixed martial arts who are as passionate about the sport as Mark Pavelich. That became crystal clear from the opening moments of our lengthy phone interview, conducted Tuesday afternoon, December 1.
We of course discussed with Mark Pavelich this card, called MFC 23: Unstoppable, and the main event fighters, Dean Lister and Thales Leites. But we mainly delved into his philosophy and practices as a promoter. We discussed the history of the Maximum Fighting Championship, why his business model has been so successful, his eventual plans to run MFC shows in the U.S., his attitude to other mixed martial arts companies, how MFC is primarily a family business, the critical importance of aesthetics for his product to please the fans, why he "hates" the use of a cage in mixed martial arts and uses a ring for his events, his positive attitude to the media both big and small covering his shows, and much more.
This is a landmark interview with a unique individual, so get ready for some more intelligent and important discussion, right here on No Holds Barred.
