No Holds Barred: Kid Peligro on the Life and Philosophy of Helio Gracie
On this special edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman speaks with our colleague Kid Peligro about the life and philosophy of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Grandmaster Helio Gracie, who passed away January 29, 2009, at age 95. Kid is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, a senior contributing editor at the ADCC News, and a correspondent on this show. He also is the author of The Gracie Way, and worked with Helio and Royler Gracie on the book Gracie Submission Essentials.
In a lengthy interview, we discuss the legacy and philosophy of Helio Gracie, the main lessons from his long and productive life, what he believed was most important about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, its role in both self-defense and sports, how Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu revolutionized the martial arts and combat sports and remains the foundation of mixed martial arts, and much more.
