NO HOLDS BARRED: Wladimir Klitschko, Emanuel Steward, Floyd Mayweather Sr.
In the third show this week of NO HOLDS BARRED, host Eddie Goldman gets some final thoughts in about the huge boxing show taking place this Saturday, November 11, at Madison Square Garden in New York.
At the final prefight news conference held Wednesday, Nov. 8, at the Garden, we spoke with the IBF heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (46-3, 41 KOs) about how he views his fight with his undefeated challenger, Calvin Brock (29-0, 22 KOs). We also spoke with Klitschko's trainer Emanuel Steward about how he sees this fight and Klitschko's place in the heavyweight division. We also hear a poem read at the press conference by trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. about his fighter, the unbeaten WBC and WIBA super middleweight champion, Laila Ali (22-0, 19 KOs). She is considered by most as the best female boxer in the world today, and, in her Madison Square Garden debut, will fight Shelley Burton (8-2-1, 2 KOs) in a title bout.
We also discuss what must be done to end the confusion in the heavyweight division, where a quickly changing cast of fighters each separately holds belts from the four largest sanctioning bodies, and how an undisputed heavyweight champion of the world can emerge. And we comment once again on the decision by HBO not to televise Laila Ali's fight in the U.S., even though it will be seen on the German and international telecasts of this show.
