SecondsOut Radio: Hasim Rahman, Oleg Maskaev, Bob Arum, Ike Quartey, Kassim Ouma, Andre Berto, Thell Torrance, Victor Valle Jr.
On this week's packed edition of SecondsOut Radio, host Eddie Goldman speaks with WBC heavyweight champ Hasim Rahman (41-5-2, 33 KOs) and challenger Oleg Maskaev (32-5, 25 KOs) about their title fight and rematch this Saturday, August 12, in Las Vegas. In their first fight, back in 1999, after being behind on all the scorecards, Maskaev won with an eighth-round KO by knocking Rahman clean out of the ring.
We also speak with promoter Bob Arum about the decline of American heavyweights and the rise of fighters from the former Soviet republics. We speak with Rahman's trainer, Thell Torrance, and Maskaev's trainer, Victor Valle Jr.
Plus, we review this past Saturday's card at New York's Madison Square Garden by speaking with Ike Quartey (37-3-1, 31 KOs), who lost a controversial decision in a junior middleweight fight to Vernon Forrest (38-2, 28 KOs); to former junior middleweight champ Kassim Ouma (25-2, 15 KOs), who won a unanimous decision over Sechew Powell (20-1, 12 KOs) to hand him his first loss; and to undefeated welterweight prospect Andre Berto who upped his record to 14-0 with 12 KOs by scoring a first-round TKO.
