NO HOLDS BARRED: Eddie Goldman Speaks with Rico Chiapparelli about the Professional Submission League
There have been many prior attempts at establishing some form of legitimate professional wrestling league in the U.S., both using submission wrestling and Olympic-style rules. One of the most promising of these ventures is called the Professional Submission League (PSL) which will have its debut show, named L.A. SUB X, on Friday, May 26, in Santa Monica, CA.
The driving force behind this new event is someone who has a wealth of experience in the combat sports: Rico Chiapparelli. He was an NCAA Div. I wrestling champion while at the University of Iowa under the legendary coach Dan Gable. He later founded the RAW Team, the most successful group of wrestlers in the mixed martial arts. Now Rico is trying his hand as a promoter of sorts, attempting to establish this pro league featuring top athletes from the grappling arts including wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and judo, all competing under one set of submission wrestling rules.
Their first event will be held at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium on Friday, May 26, beginning at 7:30 PM PDT. For those unable to attend, a live, free Internet radio webcast will be available on MMA Live (http://mmalive.com/) beginning at 7:30 PM PDT. An Internet pay-per-view is also planned after the event.
More information, including on how to order tickets, is being posted on the new PSL web site at http://www.lasubx.com/.
On this week’s edition of NO HOLDS BARRED, we discuss all this and more with Rico Chiapparelli.
