Mayorga’s Latest Disgrace
HBO Sports announced Thursday that last Saturday's Oscar De La Hoya-Ricardo Mayorga fight in Las Vegas received 875,000 pay-per-view buys, thus amassing $43.8 million in pay-per-view revenue.
The news also came out Thursday that a post-fight doping test on Mayorga came back positive for the diuretic Furosemide, also known as Lasix, which, according to this same report, is “taken to lose weight quickly or to mask steroid use.”
Remember that this was the same guy who insulted one group after another in the pre-fight hype to sell these 875,000 pay-per-view buys and tickets to the over 13,000 fans who saw the fight live at the Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Fifty bucks for this? If we wanted to see dope cheats competing, we could have always watched baseball – and for free.
And it also is no coincidence that the guys with the loudest and foulest mouths are the same ones who are the biggest cheaters.
